Instruments: One piano, two players

Duration: approximately 6’30”

This piece is inspired by the dynamic of growth between a parent and child, and

the evolution of their relationship. The first stages of life are tentative and require a lot of

support from the parent, but as the child ages they become more independent and

explorative. While no one player fully represents either the parent or the child, the

character of the interactions should still be audibly distinguishable. The development of

rhythm and melody, while minimal and codependent at first, gradually strengthens into

independent lines.
